Vea Kaiser will read from her prize-winning, bestselling novel Brass Band Pop or How Science Came to the Mountains.

Vea Kaiser is the Spring 2014 Max Kade Writer in Residence in the Department of German, Russian & East Asian Languages at Bowling Green State University. She received her MA in German philology from the University of Vienna in 2012 and her second MA in Ancient Greek in 2014. Born in St. Polten, Lower Austria in 1988, she has already enjoyed considerable success as an author and playwright. Her first novel, Brass Band Pop or How Science Came to the Mountains (2012) was number one on the Austrian Broadcasting Bestseller List; and she is the recipient of several awards (Start-Scholarship of the Austrian Ministry for Culture, Hans-Weigel Literary Scholarship, Theodor Korner Prize 2011, the prize for best first novel in German from the “Festival du Premier Roman” in Chambery /Frankreich). Her first play The Argonauts premiered in Vienna on January 14, 2014.
