Undergraduate Programs

The German major and minor programs cultivate global citizens primed for success in a twenty-first-century democracy promoting tolerance and respect for cultural diversity. We focus on enhancing learners' proficiency in intercultural communication by providing funding for every student to study abroad. Our courses foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills that can successfully be translated to a variety of jobs (see our list of alumni). Most students gain interpersonal skills by working as Language Learning Assistants and Peer Tutors in the Language Center.  Students work closely with faculty mentors to develop career paths focusing on their strengths. Being a Germanic Studies student has opened my eyes to a world beyond the United States. Learning about other countries and cultures has made me a better person, student, and friend. The classes I take for the major are such a nice combination of history, culture, language, art, film, and literature. The varied topics are always interesting, and I am always excited to go to class. I am blessed to be able to share my love of the German language and culture with students in the German Basic Language Program as a Language Learning Assistant. I provide an additional level of support in the classroom during group work. I love being able to help others while also strengthening my German language skills with frequent review.
