About

Emma Janatka received her B.A. in Germanic Studies with a minor in Art History from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Spring 2022. As a member of the Honors College during her undergrad, Emma pursued a Capstone Project titled The Nazi Aesthetic and the Peculiar Case of Emil Nolde. This project not only explored the Nazi aesthetic and what constituted "Degenerate Art", but also the complicated life story of Emil Nolde and his interactions with the Nazi Party. Now in her Graduate Studies, Emma's focus has shifted towards studies of representations of gender and sexuality in German 18th Century literature. Outside of the classroom, Emma enjoys cycling, baking, and hanging out with her cat.
