About

Ian Marks received his AA from College of DuPage in 2020 and his BA in Germanic Studies from UIC in 2022. He is currently completing his MA in Germanic Studies at UIC, and he also serves as a Teaching Assistant in the department. He held the Max Kade Fellowship during the
2022-23 academic year, and he has been awarded the Bridges scholarship multiple times. In the summers of 2022 and 2023 he studied at the Goethe Institut in Freiburg and earned his C1 certificate in Mannheim, respectively. Ian's primary field of research is in late 19th-early 20th century German literature, focusing on proto-fascist elements of patriarchy and its intersections with gender, race, and sexuality within German-speaking countries. He is particularly interested in the works of Franz Kafka and Arthur Schnitzler.
