About
Andrew Modaff is an M.A. student in the Germanic Studies Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a Max Kade Fellow for the 2023-24 academic year. He took his B.A. in Philosophy at Middle Tennessee State University. He is interested in the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein as well as the cultural and intellectual milieus of his Habsburg Vienna. He is also interested in the implementation of [Eindeutschungs-] and [Französisierungsmaßnahmen] in Alsace and Luxemburg in their respective German-speaking populations; the history of resistance against these oppressive measures; and what these historical moments of resistance can tell us about the limits of "Germanness."
